Joan Goodman Crowell Long time Flowers Human Resources Director Joan Crowell passed away Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Charter Senior Living of Cookeville, TN. She was 83 years old, and had been in increasingly declining health. Joan was born November 6, 1940, in Salisbury, NC, the second daughter of the late J. Roy Goodman and Edna I. Goodman. A graduate of Boyden H.S. in Salisbury, she was active in many business and marketing clubs and associations. Active in her church, Joan taught Sunday School, Vacation Bible School, and was a leader in the church's Campfire Girls Club. She was also a den mother for the local Cub Scouts. Joan was the Personnel Manager at then Bamby Bakers of Salisbury, starting her career there in 1973. Following a corporate buyout by Flowers Bakeries and a subsequent restructuring, she was transferred to Flowers Snacks of Crossville, TN, in 1980, where she continued in her role of HR Director until her retirement in 2004. She was the first female HR Manager in the history of Flowers industry. She carried on her interest in business associations in her professional life, serving as an officer in the local Chamber of Commerce and being a charter member of the Crossville Professional Business Women's Association, as well as other professional and civic organizations. Remaining involved in the community, Joan mentored at Brown Elementary School and was an active member of Tansi Community Church for as long as her health allowed. Joan is survived by her sons Jim (Tonya) Crowell of Crossville, TN; Johnny (Lani) of Knoxville, TN, and daughter Julie (Chris) Dillon of Rickman TN, with 11 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Marget (Gene) Hall of Hoschton, GA, and a brother, Jay (Karen) Goodman of Salisbury, NC. Joan has numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends and family, all of whom will miss her greatly. In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her husband of 58 years, John H. Crowell, and a brother, Bob L. Goodman. Funeral Service will be held at Bilbrey Funeral Home on Sunday, July 21, 2024, at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow at Crossville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Saturday, July 20, 2024, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
