On the morning of September 30, 2024, George Earl Folk of Fairfield Glade, Tennessee, passed away peacefully at home. George was 88 years old. George was born on March 18, 1936, in Somerset Township, Pennsylvania, son of the late Harold John Folk and Hattie (Steinly) Folk. He grew up in a large family which included seven brothers and five sisters and was preceded in death by eleven of his siblings. George proudly served our country in the United States Army from 1960 until 1965. After he left the military, he built a career as a salesman and later a sales manager at Kentucky Central Insurance Company, from which he retired in 1987. George enjoyed being outdoors. Nothing made him happier than being on the water with a rod and reel in his hands and he took his boat out fishing as often as he could. Once there were grandchildren to spoil, fishing became his second favorite activity. Traveling and exploring our great nation were also high on the list of things he enjoyed. For many years, George took pride in raising a large garden and sharing his surplus produce with neighbors and friends. He was an excellent woodworker, and numerous pieces of furniture were made in his workshop. George could fix or build almost anything, and over the years many people sought him out to help with repairs of everything from their cars to their toasters. George loved the Lord and spent time every day reading and studying his Bible. He served for several years as an elder for the Spring Road church of Christ in Westerville, Ohio. He ministered in the food pantry at the Main Street church of Christ in Crossville and led the Tuesday morning prayer group for many years until his health prevented him from doing so. George married Roberta (Campbell), his high school sweetheart, in 1957. They enjoyed sixty-seven wonderful years together. In addition to Roberta, George is survived by his daughter, April Boomer (Gene); son, Matthew Folk (Diane); grandchildren, Jared Boomer (Alyson), Audrey Boomer, and Perry Folk; sister, Maxine Corbett; and many nieces and nephews. It has been said that “it is not what you take when you leave this world behind, but it is what you leave behind when you go.” George Folk left a legacy of working hard, love for his family and fellowman, and service to his Lord. Memorial Service will be held at Crossville Church of Christ on Saturday, October 5, 2024, at 4:00 PM. Family will receive friends from 3:00 to 4:00 prior to the service. Arrangements and Care provided by Bilbrey Funeral Home and Cremation Service.
