Dr. Stanley Lawrence Bise

Dr. Stanley Lawrence Bise, who cared for Cumberland County area residents’ health for almost 40 years as an Ear, Nose and Throat Physician and Head and Neck Surgeon, passed away November 24, 2022, at the age of 74. Dr. Bise was born October 9, 1948, in Anna, Illinois, to Dorothy Simmons Bise and Lawrence Justin Bise. In his youth, he found his first passion in music, playing saxophone in the All-State Concert Band, and later in life learning to play the guitar and violin. He graduated Valedictorian of Webber Township High School in Bluford, Illinois. He then went to David Lipscomb University in Nashville, TN, where he received a B.A. in Chemistry, and met his wife of 54 years Dara Hedrick. Dr. Bise earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences in Memphis, TN, before completing his internship in the U.S. Navy, and training to become a Naval Flight Surgeon, earning his wings and the rank of Lt. Commander stationed with Marine Heavy Helicopter Squadron HMH-362 and Marine Air Group 26. He returned to Memphis to complete his Surgical Residencies at Methodist Hospital and University of Tennessee Center for Health Sciences. Dr. Bise and his family moved to Crossville, TN, in 1981. In addition to serving as the area’s primary Ear, Nose and Throat Surgeon, and serving on many Tennessee area medical organizations and boards, he was also a Charter Member of the Crossville Breakfast Rotary Club, a member of the Board of Directors for KIDS Inc., and part of the Airport Committee for the City of Crossville. Stanley had many hobbies and pastimes. He enjoyed traveling, sailing, scuba diving, riding a Gold Wing motorcycle, and flying single engine aircraft. His favorite pastime was acting on the stage at the Cumberland County Playhouse, where he performed in dozens of plays, sponsored productions for 20 plus years and served on the Board of Directors for the r part of two decades. He is survived by his wife Dara Bise and Children Erin and Justin Bise. A Visitation will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2022 at Bilbrey Funeral Home from 4:30 PM to 6:30 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family ask donations be made to one of his favorite charities: The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, The Rotary Foundation for Polio Plus Program, David Lipscomb University Chemistry Department, The Cumberland County Playhouse, or Hospice of Cumberland County.
