Robert “Rob” Baxter Baker was born Mar 13, 1936 in Dickson, TN to the late Alton Holmes Baker and Eunice Mae (Ladd) Baker. He passed away peacefully at age 86 at his home on December 29, 2022. A veteran of the Army, Rob served in Mannheim, Germany then moved back to TN after his service. He worked for and retired from the Federal Reserve bank in Nashville, TN but maintained friendships from that career for the rest of his life. Rob loved people and later worked as a tour bus driver and for the Fairfield Glade golf course, which were highlights for him. He was a gifted musician from a young age and enjoyed singing, playing piano, guitar, steel guitar, fiddle and about any other instrument put in front of him. He played with many talented musician friends during his musical career. Music brought him to play numerous venues and among his favorites were the Grand Old Opry and the Palace Theatre in Crossville. His last performance was just one week before he left us. Rob never tired of investing in those he loved. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Linda Baker; children, Robert Baker, Michelle Baker, Cathleen Kahn, Gary Harber, Lauren Scurlock, Cliff Harber and their spouses; 12 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren; siblings, Garnet Baker and Norma Porter; and serveral dear nieces and nephews. Rob is preceded in death by both of his parents and brother, John Carlos Baker. The Celebration of Life ceremony will be at the Crossville Depot on February 18, 2023 from 1-3pm for all who knew and loved him. Interment will be at the East Tennessee Veterans Cemetery.
