Red Smith

Hubert Ray “Red” Smith, 83, a Crossville native and lifetime resident, passed away January 7, 2022. He was born Sept. 3, 1938. He was preceded in death by his parents W.P. and Clara Belle Smith; brothers Bill, Bob, George; and sister Betty. Red graduated from Cumberland County High School where he lettered in football, baseball and basketball. He was a successful businessman who owned several service stations and stores during his career. Red is survived by his wife Ava; children Tony (Angilina) Smith and Kim (Barry) Currin; grandchildren Amanda Smith, Grant Currin, Kassandra Calvert, Malcom Johnson and T.J. Smith; several nieces and nephews, including special nephews Danny and Billy Smith and a special niece Deb McCauley. Red loved to laugh. He never met a stranger; and he lived life to the fullest. He bowled, played softball, golfed and fished. He enjoyed antique cars and loved talking to people at car shows. Visitation is 4 p.m. until 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 12, at Bilbrey Funeral Home in Crossville. Funeral services will be at 1 p.m., Thursday, Jan. 13, at the funeral home with burial in Green Acres Memory Gardens. The family asks everyone to wear a mask.
