Mary Swartzel

January 20, 1931 — August 13, 2022

Mary Lee was 91, born on January 20, 1931, and left this earthly home to join her heavenly father on August 13, 2022. She passed away in the presence of her loving family at Cookeville Regional Medical Center. She was preceded in death by her mother, Bernice Hobbs; father, Robert Hobbs; brother, Harry Hobbs; sister, Joanna Hobbs; and her husband, Bill Martin. Born in Celina, Ohio to the parents of Robert and Bernice Hobbs, she grew up in Dayton, Ohio where she lived the majority of her life. There she went to school, raised her two children (Bob and Carol) and lived a giving life. Mary was a resident of Huber Heights where she was very active in many organizations. She served as a Deacon at Faith Presbyterian Church where she made many friends who were like family to her. She also held various positions on her Condo Association Board, served as a board member of her Senior Citizen Center, treasurer of her Red Hats Ladies Club, and treasurer of her Senior Living Facility. She loved helping people and went out of her way to do what she could for others. Before retiring Mary worked at Outdoor Sports Headquarter in Miamisburg, Ohio as an accountant where she retired at age 65. She spent the next 7 years working for Comfort Keepers helping others. In 2019, Mary went to live with her daughter Carol and son-in-law in Crossville, TN. She loved visiting with friends, working puzzles, and games on her IPAD, and the occasional neighborhood party. Whenever someone in the neighborhood sent out party invites, they always asked if Lee was coming. Even in her final years she kept her sense of humor and lived her life to the fullest. She was survived in death by her daughter, Carol (Pete); son, Bob (Linell); 2 grandsons, Todd (Kristina) and Shane, whom she was like a mother to; grandson Marty (Jennifer); granddaughter, Becky; and numerous great and great-great-grandchildren. Mary loved family very much and enjoyed spending time with all of them. She will be greatly missed. There will be a Celebration of Life on August 12, 2023, at 12:00 PM at Faith Presbyterian Church, at 5555 Chambersburg Road, Huber Heights, Ohio. A gathering to follow in the sitting room across from the sanctuary. And at 4:00 PM, we will be gathering at Little York Tavern, 4120 Little York Road, Dayton, OH to swap stories and share great memories of Lee’s life among us. In lieu of flowers, you may donate to the Cancer Society.
