Margie Lee Smith

Margie Lee Smith, age 90, of Crossville, TN, passed away at home Thursday, September 1, 2022. She was born November 11, 1931 in Crossville, TN, daughter of Clyde and Clyo (Myers) Hassler. Margie was married to her precious Jesse in 1949 and they spent 68 loving years together before his passing in 2017. Margie spent several years raising four children; volunteering as room mother (some years for more than one classroom), Girl Scout leader, Playhouse wardrobe seamstress, and other activities in support of her children. She later headed the bridal department of Hughes Bros. clothing store for several years before her retirement. She was a beloved wife, cherished mother, and loving grandmother to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. She is survived by daughters, Cathy Cathey, Crossville, Debi (Eric) Goforth, Virginia, Kim (Bryan) McFarland, Kentucky; son, Bart Smith, Crossville; sister, Peggy (Norman) Kilgore, Texas; and brothers Tommy Hassler, James (Linda) Hassler, and Jerry (Sharon) Hassler all of Crossville; sister-in-law Ann Calahan, and sister-in-law Janice (Lynn) Cobb of Rockwood. She is also survived by 4 granddaughters and 4 great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Margie is preceded in death by brothers, JC Hassler, Ted Hassler, and Bob Hassler; sisters, Linda Gail Hassler and Judy Sharon Hassler; daughter-in-law, Samantha Smith; and brother- and sister-in-law Harold and Joyce Hughes, brothers-in-law Howard Smith and Jim Calahan, and sister-in-law Chloye Hassler. Funeral services will held be on Monday, September 5, 2022 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel at Bilbrey Funeral Home followed by burial at Crossville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM prior to the service. Memorial donations may be made to Alzheimer’s Association.
