Joel Richard Godsey, age 87, of Crossville, Tennessee, passed away on May 2, 2023, at Cumberland Medical Center following a brief illness. Joel was born March 10, 1936, in Crab Orchard, Tennessee to Richard and Thelma Godsey. He served in the United States Air Force and attended Tennessee Tech University. He was an Electrical and Signal Supervisor for Norfolk Southern Corporation from which he retired in 1993. Joel was an avid golfer, and you could often find him on the links at Lake Tansi, where he served on the POA Board. When he wasn’t golfing, he was usually swapping stories with his buddies at the Dairy Queen, including his favorite one about once meeting John Wayne on a boat in California. In his later years, he was usually traveling down the road to Nashville to see his beloved grandchildren, Evan and Eleanor. They kept him busy playing, dancing, and doing art projects. He shared his love of baseball with Evan and his love of art with Eleanor. Joel is survived by his wife of 47 years, Linda Sue Godsey; daughters, Kristy Brown (Andy), Marsha Kelley, and Pam Golden; grandchildren, Evan Brown and Eleanor Brown; brothers, Gary Godsey (Regina) and Arthur Godsey (Sue Ann); Special Sister-In-Law- Shirley Vitatoe; and Sister-In-Law- Shelley Godsey. In addition to his parents, Joel is preceded in death by his brothers, Don Godsey and Danny Godsey, and his sister, Norma Faye Thomas. We will miss him for all our days and cherish every moment we had with him. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday, May 7, 2023, at 3:00 PM at Bilbrey Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Turner Cemetery. Family will receive friends from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM prior to the service.
