Jerry Wayne Brown

December 28, 1936 — October 11, 2023

Jerry Wayne Brown was born to Sam and Effie Brown on December 28, 1936, in Crossville. He graduated from Cumberland County High School where he met his wife-to-be, Sue Bilbrey. They were married for 65 years and had three children, Curtis Andrew (deceased); Victoria Brown Hickey; and Shannon Brown. Jerry passed away at Cumberland Medical Center after a long battle with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's on October 11, 2023. Jerry began his working career as a surveyor for the State of Tennessee and then at TVA as a surveyor. He and Sue took a leap of faith in their early marriage and purchased what was then Home Supply on Lantana Road. The business grew and moved to a larger full-building supply location that is now Cumberland Components. There are so many friends who became family and many remember him today as someone who helped them get their start in life. He is often remembered for being someone who helped a young family build their first home after buying Home Supply. When something was important, he did it with great intention. His passion for the restoration of antique cars and trucks delivered beautiful vehicles and turned into a business of restoring and selling early 1970's Chevrolet trucks. They were hauled across the county and logged thousands of miles to shows and sales. He made life-long friends everywhere he went with a reputation for being a founder in the business of Chevrolet Truck restoration. He may also be remembered by his grandkids for teaching them to drive beginning at the early age of 12! For being loveable and ornery and argumentative. If he liked you even a little bit, you were probably called 'a big dummy' at some point. He is survived by his wife, Sue Bilbrey Brown; children, Victoria Brown Hickey (Jim), and Shannon Brown (Abby); grandchildren, Taylor Hickey (Dominique), Delaney Hickey, Savannah Brown, Bailey Brown Meadows (Reece), Evan Brown, Morgan Graham, Ava Graham; great-grandson, Oliver Hickey; and step-sister, Sammye Kranzke. There will be a graveside service at Green Acres Cemetery, on Sunday, October 15, at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Alzheimer's Tennessee, Inc., the Cumberland's, 390 South Lowe Avenue, Suite I, Cookeville, TN. Bilbrey Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
