Helen Gean Summitt passed from this life in her home on September 14, 2024 surrounded by her adoring family after her courageous battle with cancer. Helen was born on February 14, 1948, in Russell Springs, KY to Fred and Alpha Conatser. She spent several years of her childhood in KY before moving to Indianapolis, IN where she would meet her late husband and father of her daughters. Helen and her family moved to Crossville, TN in 1973 where she would spend the remaining years of her life. She enjoyed watching her family grow as her two daughters blessed her with three granddaughters and a sweet grandson. Helen suffered the loss of the father to her children in 2005. In 2007, she remarried and began to travel with her new husband. Over the years, they would see much of the country together as they took several cross-country trips out west. They also enjoyed frequent trips to Dollywood as well as the beach with the family and traveling to watch the grandchildren play sports. Helen’s love would multiply by five as she welcomed the birth of her five great-grandsons, the true lights of her life. She enjoyed hearing their squeals and cackles as they played together in the yard and the sounds of their feet running through the house as they would come inside for her to prepare food for them. Helen loved family dinners and holidays when she got to prepare meals for those she loved most. She will be remembered most for her unintentional wit and the never-failing love for her family and close friends. Helen was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Alpha Conaster, brother, Paul Coffey, and sister-in-law Christine Coffey as well as her late husband and the father of her children, Max Bridges. Helen is survived by her loving husband, Jim, her daughters, Pam (Johnny) Adams, Franki (Brian) Lane, her granddaughters and grandson, Ashton (Matt) Poindexter, Colby (David) Shillings, Morgan Bridges, and Devin Lane, and her five precious great-grandsons, Hudson, Brody, Tucker, Max, and Barrett. Helen leaves behind her sister, Patty (Kenny) Jordan and special nieces and nephews, Christy (Chris) DeRousse, Shannon (Aziz) Alakan and family, and Joe (Melanie) Jordan and family. She is also survived by her stepchildren, Mike (Myra) Summitt, Tammy (Otto) Farfan, and Jim (Candy) Summitt. Helen held a special place in her heart for Misty (Mark) Wright and their daughters, Bailey (Adam) Weight, Brook Wright, and Karli Wright and thought of them as her own children and grandchildren. She will also be deeply missed by her best friend of over 50 years, Shelia Goss, whom Helen loved very much. It is no secret that Helen was well loved by many and would be pleased to know that her legacy of faith, family, and laughter will be carried for generations to come.
