Harrie Paul Westphal

Harrie Paul Westphal, age 79, of Crossville, TN, passed away on October 17, 2023, at home. Mr. Westphal was born on November 24, 1943, in Farmington, MI, son of the late Howard Harry Westphal and Viola (Dietrich) Westphal. Harrie served our country in the United States Air Force at Ellsworth Air Force Base in Rapid City, South Dakota from 1961 to 1965. He was proud of his work as a missile technician keeping the base’s AGM-28 Hound Dog missiles air ready. After the Air Force he began work as a computer programmer at Detroit Edison. When he married Shirley and they started a family he attended night classes at Lawrence Institute of Technology and earned his bachelors degree in order to advance his career at Edison. Harrie retired to Fairfield Glade, Tennessee where he enjoyed spending time with his friends and former co-workers Robert Olds and Monty Carolan as well as the friends he called the Cracker Barrel Crew that he met during frequent visits to that restaurant. He is survived by his son, Brian Westphal (Linda); daughter, Tanya Thom (Keith); grandchildren, Kieran Westphal, Declan Westphal, Owen Westphal, Logan Thom, and Rachael Thom; sisters-in-law, Barbara Brzuchanski and Sharon Campbell; and several nieces. In addition to his parents, Harrie is preceded in death by his wife, Shirley Marie Westphal; stepmother, Dorothy Westphal; and brother-in-law Douglas Campbell. A memorial service followed by interment will take place at 9:30 am on Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Glen Eden Memorial Park 35667 Eight Mile Road in Livonia, Michigan.
