Gwen Lee (Weaver) Eckert, age 93, of Crossville, TN, passed away at Cookeville Regional Medical Center on August 20, 2024. Mrs. Eckert was born on March 21, 1931, in Manhattan, Kansas, daughter of the late Glenn A. Weaver and Iola (Kunze) Weaver. She graduated from Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Science with a Bachelor of Science degree in Home Economics in 1953. She began her career as a Home Economics teacher in the Abeline Kansas public school system, and then in the Wichita public school system. She later became a Home Economist with General Electric Company in Louisville, KY, where she met and married Charles (Charlie) Eckert. Gwen and Charlie began their life together in Louisville, and raised their children Cathy and Mike predominantly in Hingham, MA, where Gwen was an active member of the Hingham Mother’s Club. Gwen and Charlie subsequently spent many years residing in Cheshire CT before retiring to New Bern, NC. Gwen enjoyed golf, walking, entertaining, and was an avid bridge player. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine Shuler of Crossville, TN; son, Michael Eckert (Jill) of New Bern, NC; grandchildren, Mitchell, Martial, and Michael Eckert; brother, Jerry Weaver of Florence, Italy. In addition to her parents, Gwen is preceded in death by her husband, Charles F. Eckert; and sister, Kaye Deam. No services are scheduled at this time.
