Glenn “Ray” Cobb was born on February 7, 1928, to Charles and Willie Cobb in Hazard, Kentucky. He was raised in the Cumberland Homesteads. His parents were original homesteaders. He was known as Ray by his family and friends. Ray left home with 4 friends at the age of 15, got on a cattle car here in town and rode to Fort Oglethorpe and joined the Navy with Lester Turner. His other 3 friends went to the Army. One named Fox another Smith. I don’t know the last one. They never made it back home. They were all raised on the homestead. They went into the service for WWII. When he got out Ray was in the Reserves. He got called back for the Korean War. Ray married Audrey Ealene Hoover in 1948. She passed away in 1980. He retired in 1984 from Cadillac Motor Car in Detroit, Michigan. He came back home to Crossville, TN and made his home on Linger Lake. Ray was a lifetime member of the VFW. He is survived by son, Randal Cobb and wife, Jackie; granddaughter, Audrey Cobb; great grandson, Nathan Doxie of Howell, Michigan; brother, Lynn Cobb and wife Janice of Rockwood; sister, Faye Newberry of Crossville.
