Mr. Gene A. Stone passed away with his wife and dedicated caregiver by his side at his home in Fairfield Glade, TN, on December 13, 2021, at the age of 90. Mr. Stone was born on August 13, 1931, in Old Hickory, TN and was preceded in death by his father and mother, Curtis Rannell Stone and Vivian Byrd Stone and his stepson, Rick Patterson. Mr. Stone was a Christian and had been involved in many church-related activities and was a member of the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church in Fairfield Glade, TN. He leaves behind his wife Phyllis of Fairfield Glade ; a sister and brother-in-law, Bo and Sandra Stone Watwood of Alabama; a son and daughter in law, Todd and Susan Gordon Stone of Murray, KY; stepdaughter, Barbara Turgeon and husband Bob; two grandchildren, Morgan Stone Bumbaugh (Caleb) of Franklin, TN; Mollie Stone Carroll (Abram) of Brentwood, TN; and 5 step grandchildren He was graduate of Dupont High School in Old Hickory and earned an engineering degree from Tennessee Tech University. He served as a lieutenant in the Army Counter Intelligence Corps (CIC) during the Korean War. He was a Special Agent first assigned to the 308th CIC Detachment at 8th Army Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea. Three weeks after arriving there, he was assigned to the 181st CIC Detachment, 1st Marine Division for 14 months. He also served as Commander of the KWVA Chapter in Crossville for 4 years. Under his tenure, the Korean War Memorial was presented and dedicated to the Cumberland County Memorial Park. Gene retired as Vice President from Southeastern Telecom. He was a waterfowl hunter, played golf, served in several areas of the Church, President of the dance club and aspired to always improve in his piano playing. A celebration of life service will be held on Saturday, January 8, 2022, at 2:00 P.M. at the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church in Fairfield Glade, TN. In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made to the Fairfield Glade United Methodist Church, 231 Westchester Dr, Crossville, TN 38558 or The ALS Association Tennessee Chapter, 783 Old Hickory Blvd Suite 257, Brentwood, TN 37027.
