Daniel Thomas Cieniewski passed away unexpectedly, at age 75, on October 8th, 2023, with his life partner, Nancy Lee Beyer, lovingly by his side. Born July 23, 1948 to Marie and George Cieniewski, Dan lived out his wild youth in Chicago, Illinois with his older brother Jim, along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and close friends nearby. In 1966, he graduated from Lane Tech College Prep High School, and in 1971, he earned an Associate of Science degree from DeVry University in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. Years later, he returned to school, and in 1986, he earned a Bachelor of Science degree from Elmhurst College in Computer Science and Mathematics. Dan’s first job in the field of engineering was with Honeywell where he worked for over 18 years. Dan retired from the field as a Supplier Quality Engineer (Level 4) in January of 2014 after a successful 37-year career. He was inquisitive and a true intellect. He loved to figure out how things worked and could fix anything. He was an avid Cubs fan and a true car lover. Dan was strong-willed, stubborn and short-tempered at times, but he also had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He was kind, loyal, and hardworking. If someone he loved was in need, Dan was always there to lend a helping hand however he could. Even after being diagnosed with ALS and suffering in ways he had never imagined, he was thinking about others – wanting to be a part of finding a cure to save those who would come after him from enduring the pain he knew too well. He will be remembered for all the love he shared with his friends and family. He will be remembered as an amazing partner, father, grandfather, uncle and friend. In his final months, he carried himself with dignity and unbelievable strength and was full of love for those who went before him. He will be missed dearly. Family Who Went Before Dan was predeceased by mother, Marie (Panfil) Cieniewski, who died September 3, 1995, father, George Cieniewski, who died May 17, 2002, nephew, James S. “Jimmy” Cieniewski, who died October 2008, sister-in-law, Donna L. (Muraski) Cieniewski, who died May 15, 2010, and brother James D. “Jim” Cieniewski, who died January 12, 2011. Family He Left Behind He is survived by life partner Nancy Lee Beyer, sons Matthew Robert Cieniewski (Rob Aavang) and Scott Thomas Cieniewski, daughter Sara Marie Cieniewski Butcher (Bret), grandchildren Brody James Butcher and Max Anthony Butcher, niece Elizabeth Cieniewski, and best friends Bob and Louise Dean. His canine companions were near and dear to his heart. Bailey has stayed behind with Nancy, but Buddy and Copper are on a long walk with him now. Currently, there are no services planned. In Dan’s honor, the family requests donations be made to the ALS Association (als.org), an organization and cause Dan felt strongly about after being diagnosed with ALS this year.
