Carol Lord Watford Davenport, of Crossville, TN, was born at home on June 13, 1941, in Pensacola, FL to parents Dossie M. Lord and Estelle Brown Lord. She passed into the waiting arms of Jesus on April 27, 2025.
Carol is survived her husband, Glen W. Davenport; sister-in-law, Jackie Lord; nephews, Billy (Shawn), Doug (Becky), Mike (Kathy) Lord and Bart Lord. As well as great nieces, nephews, and cousins; step-son, Marty Davenport (Amy); step-grandsons, Ryan, Grant and Karl (Chelsea) Davenport; step-granddaughters, Katelynn Davenport and Emma Davenport; step daughters-in-law, Tina Davenport and Melanie Smith; siblings of her husband, Frances Garrett; sister-in-law, Betty Davenport, Lowell (Barbara) Davenport; sister-in-law, Mary Davenport and J.E. (Loretta) Davenport; siblings of late husband, Ouida (John) Barrington, Faye Adams, and Elouise (Larry) Thomas; sister-in-law, Helen Watford.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her first husband of 41 years, Elmer O'Neal Watford; brothers, 'Gene' Lord and 'Pete' Lord; brother-in-law, Frank Watford; nephews, Alan Lord and Dan Lord; niece, Darlene Lord Lee; very special uncle, Ora C. Lord, and step-son, Matthew Davenport.
When Carol was four years old her family moved to Pace, FL. She grew up immersed in her family's grocery business. Carol's adventurous spirit was evident early on, including a cherished year in Chestnut Hill, TN, and her deep love for the mountains of Tennessee. Because of health challenges, her family moved back to Florida.
Carol's education journey spanned several schools, including Pace Elementary, Milton High School, Cumberland County High School, and Pensacola High School. Her professional life reflected her commitment and excellence, with over 35 years of dedicated service at the Santa Rosa County Tax Collector's Office in Milton, Florida.
She was saved at the age of nine at First Missionary Baptist Church in Pace, Florida, and was baptized in Floridatown Bay. She held numerous roles in her churches over the years, including pianist, church clerk, and Sunday School teacher. Her lifelong service in ministry began at 16 and continued at Galilee Missionary Baptist Church and later at Cumberland Cove Baptist Church in Monterey, Tennessee, where her husband, Glen Davenport, is pastor.
Carol married Elmer O'Neal Watford in 1964, sharing 40 wonderful years together until his passing in 2004. In 2013, she found love again and married Glen W. Davenport.
She had a passion for travel, visiting 46 U.S. states and six foreign countries, including treasured trips to the Holy Land, Alaska, and Canada. Carol also enjoyed creative pursuits such as sewing, woodworking, photography, and painting. Her love for the mountains and snow brought her immense joy.
Carol's unwavering faith, selflessness, and vibrant creativity touched everyone she met. She is survived by her loving family, friends, and community members. Pallbearers in Florida include Bart Lord, Mike Lord, Doug Lord, Billie Lord, Duke Lee, and Marty Davenport.
A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11:00 am at Cumberland Cove Baptist Church in Monterey, TN. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service, from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. There will also be a service in Florida, date and time to be announced.
