Passed away peacefully March 13, 2022. Born October 7, 1927, Predeceased by his parents William H. and Frances Rayeur McShane, daughter Susan Therese McShane, brothers Henry and Robert McShane, sister Molly McShane Fenger, and nephew Billy McShane. He is survived by wife Arlene of 68 years, two children Mary Kay (Chuck) Fulkerson, Michael (Debbie) McShane, four grandchildren, Ashley Elizabeth (Ajay) Antoine, Michael William McShane Jr., Heather Teresa McShane, Elizabeth Susan (Matthew) Kidd and great grandchildren, Avery Grace and Carter Bryce Antoine. Bill graduated from Hamburg, NY High School and lettered in three sports. After High School, Bill volunteered for the US Army and was stationed at a secret military facility in Whitter, Alaska from 1947-49. Bill attended Canisus College on a football scholarship and played on a semi-pro team after graduating from college. He loved the game of football, he and his wife Arlene had season tickets and attended Buffalo Bills games for many years. Bill enjoyed camping and canoeing with his family in the Canadian Parks. He and his family were avid skiers and he volunteered on the Ski Patrol for over 25 years. Bill retired from Bethlehem Steel Co. in Lackawanna, NY where he was a Superintendent. After retiring from Bethlehem Steel he continued to work as a consultant for other steel companies. After retiring he and his wife bought a small farm in Orchard Park, NY with horses and a greenhouse business “Hill Top Flowers” that he enjoyed and had for many years. In Orchard Park, NY where they lived for over 30 years, Bill served as President of the Parish Council at Nativity of Our Lord Church where he was a long-time member. He and his wife also served as Chairman of the Catholic Charities Drive. Bill and Arlene retired to Fairfield Glade in 2006 and became members of Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church. Bill is a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and loved going to church. Here in Fairfield Glade Bill was on a men’s golf league, sometimes playing multiple times a week, member of a dance club, enjoyed playing bridge, and of course enjoyed family visits. He will be missed by all who knew him. In Lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Knights of Columbus Council #16088, or to the Alzheimer’s Association of Tennessee. A funeral is scheduled for April 1st at 10 am at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church 7503 Peavine Rd, Crossville, TN 38558.
