Anna Christine Bond

April 11, 1926 — April 6, 2022

Anna Christine “Chris” Tabor Bond passed away April 6 at the Cumberland Hospice House, five days shy of her 96th birthday. The family will receive friends Tuesday, April 12 from 1:00-3:00 pm with the celebration of her life at 3:00 pm at Bilbrey Funeral Home, Crossville, TN. Grandson Dr. Brian Smith, Pastor of Cook Road Baptist Church, where Chris held membership, will officiate. Chris was born April 11, 1926 to Monroe and Nellie Lyons Tabor at the old home place on Tabor Loop. She was in the 1944 graduating class at CCHS and shortly after graduation went to work at the federal facility in Oak Ridge, TN as many young women her age did during World War II. October 29, 1945, Chris married Robert R. ‘Bob’ Bond and they enjoyed fifty-five years together. Throughout Bob’s 35-year US Army career the Bond family moved frequently. Chris thoroughly enjoyed telling stories of the places they lived and friends they made during their tours at Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Knox, Kentucky; Baumholder and Kitzingen, Germany. She looked forward to hearing from and visiting with many of those military friends once they were stateside. In retirement, Chris kept busy with a garden, canning hundreds of jars of green beans, tomatoes and freezing several bushels of corn each year. Well into her 80’s, Chris walked several times a week at the VF Mall with her walking buddies Faye Bagnall and Glenda Jones. Probably her most enjoyable pastime was piecing quilts that she shared with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Chris kept a notebook, listing each pattern, with fabric colors for each quilt she pieced by hand. At last count, Chris had finished 82 quilts! Up until the last few months, Chris attended church weekly and read her Bible devotions daily. She was also a voracious reader, always checking out a book bag full of books from The Art Circle Library. Chris is survived by daughter, Anita (Lynn) Smith and son, Randy (Glenda) of Crossville; daughter-in-law Dianne (Steve) Bond of Beaufort, SC; sister, Linda (Rick) White, Crossville; grandchildren, Brian (Cynthia) Smith, Crossville; John Bond, Hixson, TN; Michael Bond, Crossville, Jennifer (Mark) Bever, Charlotte, NC; Karen (Eric) Trowell, Rock Spring, GA; and Jeremy Bond, Charolotte, NC; great grandchildren, Emma Smith and Caleb Smith, Crossville; Ethan Headlee, Hixson, TN; and Avery Anderson, Rock Spring, GA and Jax Bond, Hixson, TN remember her as ‘Nana’ and numerous nieces and nephews who called her ‘Aunt Chris’. She was predeceased by her parents, husband Bob, son Steve, brothers Clarence (Margie) Tabor, Charles (Joanne)Tabor, sister Helen (Glen) Hatfield and grandson Scott Bond. Education was important to Chris (and Bob); they were proud of all the high school and college graduates in their family, attending many of their graduation ceremonies. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making memorial donations to the Scott Miller Bond scholarship fund managed by the United Fund of Cumberland County, 348 Taylor Street, Crossville 38555.
